Gnome 2.24
Oct 28, 2008 linux
Already left in September, but only now started to use Gnome 2.24 - made by the normal updates of "my" distro: ArchLinux.
Now, the Nautilus gives details "spectacular":

- Multi tabs;
- Button to eject disks external (USB disk, pen, mp3 player, etc.);
- Vista compact.
There are also more / other changes that Gnome 2.24. Take a look at Release Notes (version en).

EasyTAG> Gtkpod> iPod
Oct 23, 2008 Tips, linux
With some Gigabytes in my music library, organization is key! It was a task that has to do from scratch, that is, in all my songs / albums before he can move to my iPod (5th Gen - 80GB).
. EasyTAG
The first step is to certify that the tags (ID3) are all in the name of the artist, album, track number and track correct. To edit these tags use the EasyTAG.
$ Sudo apt-get install EasyTAG
It is very intuitive intuitive editing a tag with this program. We can also search the same tags on CDDB. [Procedures: Select all the songs from an album "right-click" Search CDDB files]
We can also now choose the image (the shelf) and adds the (all files of the album). [Procedures: Select all the songs from an album "in the third column of the program click on the tab labeled 'picture' 'Button' more 'and choose the image' in the final check clicked on the right side of the image 'of the buttons on the top bar choose Save file (s) ']
. Gtkpod
To download the songs to iPod use the Gtkpod. I already talked about this program in the past, and he said how to configure your iPod to allow their synchronization with Linux. Read the article written by me to learn more about these procedures.
Can the gtkpod make sure the shelf is correctly 'listed', activating the window of 'album art' in the lower right corner left the program. If not suggest returning to EasyTAG and edit the tags again. If they do so in Gtkpod, none of these changes will be saved - a next time try to copy those songs to your iPod, the shelf is not configured correctly.
Saving is the end, disassemble the disk / iPod and voila: it can go for a ride / walk to the nearest park because that's not learned anything! ![]()

Conky
Oct 20, 2008 how-to
Conky is a free, light-weight system monitor for X, that displays any information on your desktop. Conky is licensed under the GPL and runs on Linux and BSD.
Almost all of you have already seen some screenshots of desktops that contained the Conky and sure loved it. It is simple to install / configure and in the end you can have a work environment more appealing / information.
. Installation
All distributions should have the conky in its archives. Look for the package "conky" and install.
$ sudo apt-get install conky
. Configuration
The installation is not worth a thing without further configuration. They edit the file ~ /. Conkyrc. Depending on your distribution, may or may not have created a conkyrc / pre-set.
$ gedit ~/.conkyrc
Here is a sample of conkyrc mine:

This requires some extra sources. Drops them out and moves to the *. ttf: / usr / share / fonts / myfonts (need to create the folder myfonts). In the end it is necessary to update pounds of sources:
$ sudo fc-cache -f -v #Porventura poderá ser necessário fazer relogin para fazer efeito
. Running
To run Conky, simply launch the application conky (example: Alt + F2 and type conky). You can also add to the Conky startup: System 'Preferences' Sessions - [Add]: (Name): Conky, (Command): conky.
. Some Notes
To configure your network devices (Ethernet, wireless) pay attention if your device is eth0, eth1, wlan0, etc. (Do: $ sudo ifconfig to take the doubts)
Query the homepage of Conky and especially this page where you have all the variables you can enter your conkyrc.
